UK ILAE EEG Course, Cambridge

This 2 day course is designed specifically for the education of Neurology Registrars/Trainees. It is being run in Cambridge in March 2011 and addresses the issues of EEG and its interpretation.

Description: Introducing the UK ILAE EEG course

This is the first UK ILAE (International League Against Epilepsy) EEG course. The aim is to provide an EEG course for non-neurophysiologists that teaches (a) the basic principle of EEG interpretation and (b) clinical settings in which a routine EEG will provide useful information and those in which it will not.

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Interpret and localise EEG activity using different EEG montages.
  • Identify the range of normal variants of the routine adult and paediatric EEG in wakefulness and sleep.
  • Identify epileptiform and non-epileptiform abnormalities on the EEG.
  • Select appropriately when to order an EEG.
  • Distinguish the role of EEG in epilepsy and non-epilepsy neurological disorders.
  • Utilise EEG in intensive care and suspected non-convulsive status epilepticus.
  • Employ EEG to influence the clinical management of patients with epilepsy.
