Belfast hosts 40th Annual Irish Neurological Association Meeting

The Irish Neurological Association's 40th annual meeting took place in Belfast on May 13th-15th, 2004.  It was hosted by Dr. Elaine Hicks, consultant paediatric neurologist at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and President of the INA.

A satellite Irish Neuromuscular Meeting was held on Thursday 13th May.

The INA meeting was opened later that evening with a reception at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children at which Dr. Hicks formally welcomed delegates.

The academic programme comprised of morning platform sessions on 14th and 15th May, and an afternoon Defence of Posters session on 14th May.  The afternoon of May 14th also featured the academic highlight of the meeting when Professor Emeritus Victor Dubowitz delivered the Allison lecture on: "Treatment of Muscular Dystrophy".  The INA Meeting prizewinning presentations were announced at lunchtime on May 15th.

The essential social dimension of the INA Meeting was preserved with a very enjoyable reception and dinner in the wonderful setting of the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum.  Unfortunately, the much anticipated steamtrain ride from Belfast City Hospital to the Museum had had to be cancelled.  This did not mar delegates' enjoyment of the evening's entertainment which included a jazz band and Ulster Storytellers.
