Neurology Update Meeting 2012

The 11th annual Neurology Update Meeting took place on October 5th at Croke Park Conference Centre. The meeting was well attended with delegates reporting the relevance of lectures to their practice.

 


The meeting focused on disease-modifying therapy in relation to acute ischaemic stroke and multiple sclerosis.

Guest speaker Dr Eric Juttler of the University of Ulm, Germany, gave a comprehensive overview of the development of hemicraniectomy for malignant middle cerebral artery infarction, including the just-released DESTINY 2 trial data which justify considering otherwise eligible patients over the age of 60.

Dr Paul Brennan and Dr Alan O'Hare outlined endovascular approaches including the Beaumont Hospital data for the past 2 years.

Dr Sean Murphy and Professor Michael Hutchinson described the state-of-the art for intravenous thrombolytic therapy and multiple sclerosis respectively.

Dr Donal Costigan rounded off the meeting with a series of educational personal cases.
